There is nothing quite so amazing as viewing not one but two or more galaxies in the same eyepiece field. The sight of one stellar metropolis is breathtaking in its own right. But twin galaxies, such as featured here, are a real treat. NGC 516 and NGC 524 are gathered among several galaxies in Pisces. 5.2 magnitude Zeta (86) Piscium burns about 3 degrees to the southwest. My sketch captures the appearance of this pair in my 10-inch Starfinder at 129X. NGC 524 is just about centered. This 10.3 magnitude SO-type galaxy covers a1'.5 diameter area and features a stellar core region. Just about 10' to the west, NGC 516 emerges as a 1'.5X0'.3 spindle. This SO-type galaxy has a photographic magnitude of 14.1, which indicates a visible magnitude in the area of 12.0 to 12.5. Eight field stars complete the view.
