NGC 1052 is located in western Cetus just across the border from Eridanus. 5.3 magnitude 80 Eridani shines about 2 degrees to the northwest. The sketch at left captures the view in my 10-inch at 63X. NGC 1042 is the larger of the two galaxies pictured. Its 11.1 magnitude glow is spread across a 4'x3' oval which appears elongated northeast-to-southwest. 10.4 magnitude NGC 1052 stands 15' to the northeast. This elliptical galaxy features a bright stellar core region embedded within a 90" nebulous glow. Some 19 stars pepper the field. NGC 1035 is visible just beyond the northwest boundary.
